Q) What benefits go to a sponsored Children’s HopeChest orphan?
A) Your sponsorship covers five categories of benefits:
Environmental - A portion of your support, combined with other sponsor's support for your child's orphanage, will be used to improve and maintain the facilities that house them. These improvements can include kitchen equipment, better plumbing, roofing upgrades, and more.
Medical - Your sponsored child will receive regular health checkups, and medical
intervention as needed. You'll also provide improved nutrition to your
sponsored child.
Emotional - When you become a HopeChest sponsor, your sponsored child's network
of emotional support is greatly expanded. Staff at the orphanage responsible
for your sponsored child receives special training that equips them to better
deal with the unique emotional needs of the orphans they serve. Also, your
involvement in your sponsored child's life through cards, letters, and even
personal visits is an avenue of emotional support that child would normally
be denied.
Educational - Because of their social status, orphans are often among the
first to be marginalized in the classroom. Many of them give up hope
of being an excellent student simply because the traditional expectations
for orphans are that they will barely succeed at school. Your sponsorship
will help change that for your sponsored child through regular and personalized
tutoring.
Spiritual - Your sponsored child will see the love of God demonstrated tangibly
through the complete package of benefits your sponsorship provides. To
make sure your sponsored child understands how important he is to God - and
especially that God has not abandoned him – age appropriate Bible teaching
will be offered to your sponsored child.
Q) How much of my monthly support will actually benefit the child I sponsor?
A) Children's HopeChest has been blessed with low overhead to date. Historically, we have consistently been able to apply $0.85 on the dollar to ministry activities.
We have prepared long and hard for sponsorship ministry to the children we serve. Our best projections indicate that we may come close to that same figure for sponsorship activities. But the nature of sponsorship ministry will probably demand greater overhead expenses than our other ministry efforts. Other sponsorship organizations have told us that a figure slightly under $0.80 on the dollar might be more realistic in our first few years of sponsorship ministry. (Even this figure would rank us among the most efficient sponsorship ministries.)
Whatever the case, our sponsors will receive a report that will tell them exactly how their sponsorship dollars are being used, including what percentage directly affects our sponsored children.
Q) What should I write to my sponsored child about?
A) Write about your interests, your family, your pets, your travel, and your relationship with God.
Do (to benefit your child)
Don't (to protect your child & yourself)
Q) Can two of my friends and I share a sponsorship?
A) Yes, you can share sponsorship. We only ask that one person be chosen as the contact person to receive information from Children's HopeChest. And we ask that you send your payment together for tracking purposes.
Q) How will my letters get translated into Russian?
A) Children's HopeChest utilizes volunteer and staff translators that convert your letter into Russian and your child's letters into English.
Q) What can I send my child?
A) You can send your child letters, pictures, and other paper items that fit into a 6x9 inch envelop, and now you can also email your sponsored child.
UPDATE: For Holiday & Birthday gifts, Children's HopeChest, in an effort to best serve the needs of all the children is in the process of changing the gift policy. The new policy will eliminate direct gift giving by sponsors. The new policy will better ensure a sense of equality for all of the children. Therefore, CHC is asking that gifts of money (not to exceed $15.00) be sent for such occasions.
Q) Why don’t I get letters back from my sponsored child?
A) There are a few reasons why you may not be getting letters back from your sponsored child.
Often your sponsored child has written back but their letters first need to be translated into English, along with hundreds of other letters in "queue". Once translated, your child's letter is packaged with other letters to be "hand carried" to the US by a HopeChest team member. Letters are then forward on to CBC. The process can take weeks, and at times up to a few months. We beg your patience!
Secondly, not all children have the same ability or enthusiasm to write, but we find with little exception all children love to receive mail. Even if you don't get a reply from your sponsored child, we want to encourage you to continue writing on a regular basis.
Q) What happens if my child leaves the orphanage?
A) If your child leaves the orphanage for any reason, you will be notified by CHC and you will be provided a replacement child to sponsor by a Capo Beach Calvary Russian Ministry Coordinator.
Q) Can I send my child money?
A) No, if you wish to send a gift to your sponsored child please send funds (not to exceed $15.00) to Children's HopeChest.
Q) Can I email my sponsored child?
A) Yes!
